PRIVATE RESIDENCE
Leelanau County, Michigan
Program: 3 bedroom home, with view orientation and modest budget as prime considerations
Solution: The design is contemporary in its expression while traditional in its use of the simple materials and detailing reminiscent of nearby farm structures. Tucked into a hillside and situated high on a bluff, the major living spaces are on the upper level of the L-shaped floor plan. A series of large scale windows, ordered by a 6 foot module and punctuated by a copper-clad fireplace, provide magnificent views of Lake Michigan and the Manitou Islands to the west. A covered screened porch and linear deck wrap the southern and western elevations, providing exterior living spaces from which to further enjoy views of the dramatic and ever-changing landscape.
